The Cask Room was designed, built, and is operated by husband & wife Mike and Stephanie Kallay (plus Tex Kallay) of San Diego.

Mike first had the idea for a wine bar in 2003. "It was a fitting profession for us, afterall, we did have our first date at a wine bar."

Mike's idea was to make the ultimate comfortable space. Good wines and great music are prerequisites for a great wine bar, but something that often gets overlooked is the seating. "I was always very interested in going to existing wine bars -- afterall, who has a better selection and better knowledge than the shops that specialize in wine tasting? But who wants to sit at a table for hours on end?"

"I wanted to craft a living room atmosphere -- leather furniture, coffee tables, and the look & feel of someone's home." The barrels on the walls were always a key part of the design. "I thought that it would be pretty cool if you could build a loft inside of a winery cask room. There is something so comforting and so romantic about being at a winery -- so we decided to bring those elements together to set the stage for a great evening."  Read on...
